First post, explaining why I'm here
This was just posted on my LiveJournal, username "jmthane"...

More of the truth has been found out. Read this on LJ, or read the expanded version on GreatestJournal.

It appears that Mr. Berkowitz, chairman and CEO of SixApart, was on the road ready to announce an IPO (or Initial Public Offering, for those of you that don't speak stock-market-ese). How would it look to the potential investors if the company was "full of pedophiles"?

Anyone else think this, as well as the threat to go to the advertisers, was the true cause of the knee-jerk reaction to a couple of right-wing Dominionist groups' claims?

LJ community 'innocence_jihad' has a list of WFI's targets - 419 journals total, 346 of them users and 73 communities. I went through and counted the total, as well as the ones that were restored.

Out of 346 users, 165 were restored. 47.7%.

Out of 73 communities, 54 were restored. A whopping 74%.

219 total journals restored from the initial hit list of 419. 52.3%.

Combine this with the fact that LJ Abuse was advised about some of the really-should-have-been-deleted journals prior to WFI and Perverted Justice's outside influence and *nothing was done* about them, and what I see is a corporate entity that is worried far less about the community and protecting children than a corporate entity looking out for it's bottom line.

Being cross-posted to my GJ and to my new IJ (InsaneJournal), where the username for both is "jmthane".

I'm pretty sure at this point that I'll be dropping LJ to "basic" account status when my paid time runs out.

And back to my IJ post - I'll be along to set this up more fully. Right now, it looks like I'm going to be on all three services. We'll see who I stay with.

Linked to your post both here and on GJ. Thank you for the information. It's an interesting bunch of statistics.

Glad to be here, I hope. A little twitchy right about now, I hope you understand.

I'm on all three as well, but I've been up for a few hours and haven't even bothered to check my LJ friends lists yet. I'm currently leaning towards IJ with a secondary journal at GJ, and keeping my LJ on basic just to read communities and friends' journals occasionally.

There's a community for the refugees at [info]07refugees, too.

Yeah, don't know quite exactly where I'm gonna end up, but LJ isn't exactly endearing itself to me these past few days with their "we screwed up" corporate-speak.

Neither. They haven't actually done anything that they didn't have to. They can just put out feeble apologies and restore half of the journals and everyone will point at it and say, "Look, you got what you wanted."

Yeah, LJ (more accurately SixApart) seems to have mastered the art of doublespeak rather thoroughly. The really sad part is that there are a large number of people who are buying it...

I am of the opinion that Orwell's "1984" really ought to be required reading.

I somehow managed to get into an RL fight with my eldest sister over it. She claims the most compelling writing/article she's seen on the subject is Barak's news posts. Gnnnrrrrghh. It only came up because I was talking about InsaneJournal.

Of curse, just because someone looks like they're buying it doesn't mean they're not being careful... if everyone is up in arms about something all the time, you can quicky become desensitised to caring.
